Hulk Smashes Milestone 800th Issue

Incredible Hulk #19 will mark the Hulk's 800th issue and Marvel Comics is celebrating by making it a giant-sized milestone issue. Continuing team Phillip Kennedy Johnson and Nic Klein will be joined by Greg Pak, Benjamin Percy, Torunn Grønbekk, Geoff Shaw, Lynne Yoshii, and Lan Medina. Other characters like She-Hulk, Brawn, and Red Hulk will also be spotlighted. The issue will lay groundwork for a new solo series featuring a member of the Hulk family.

A/N: So, the last time I was actively watching Teen Wolf (when S3 and S4 were airing) I thought it was a running gag that Stiles's real name was never revealed and it was just always a mystery to the audience (like how it's a gag in Degrassi that Heather St. Claire's face is never seen). But when I saw a tiktok showing his real name, I was shocked, and then entirely amused by it. And I was also really offended because I'm watching S1 for the first time and the coach calls Stiles's name 'child abuse' and his father doesn't even dispute that, knowing that it's a family name to honour his dead mother's side of the family. And the fact that he is a character whose real name is very hard to pronounce and very few people actually know what it is got me thinking about the comic book character - Mister Mxyzptlk - and I realized that Stiles, being a comic book nerd who is always referencing things like The Incredible Hulk and Batman and Robin, would fucking love that comparison. Thus, this mini fic. Usually, this is an idea I would save and put it as a moment in a longer fic, but I'm not currently working a fic where I feel like this fits in, so it has become its own mini fic. Random idea, but enjoy this random fluff.

"Is Stiles your real name?"

You inquired lightly, walking out of school with Scott and Stiles.

"It's something I've been wondering since we met."

Stiles felt a unique anxiety clutch in his chest at this question. He hated telling people his real name, especially when those people were pretty girls. Especially when they were pretty girls he had only met a week ago who were new in town who otherwise didn't know what a reputation he had for being a loser and could form their own opinions of him.

He could see any chance he had with you being flushed down the drain at top speed. But it wasn't much different from any other girl he previously had a crush on.

"Cause, I thought maybe it was your last name. Guys who play sports usually do that - always call each other by their last names." You went on, not sensing the awkwardness as Scott and Stiles eyed each other heavily, waiting for the other person to speak. "But I heard the coach calling you Balinski?"

"Stilinski." Stiles corrected you. "I think he gets my name wrong on purpose to belittle me." He gave a fake laugh to play it off, but you frowned.

"Stiles is a nickname." Scott added on, trying to usher Stiles away from the awkwardness of having to tell you himself. "His real first name is... really hard to pronounce, and not a lot of people at our school even know it. So - everyone just knows him as Stiles."

This brought Stiles back to a painful memory - in fourth grade, someone had seen the attendance sheet with his real name on it, and showed it to everyone else. And this had started a barrage of bullying and rumours about how he had gotten the name.

Some said that his mother hated him as soon as he was born and wanted to name him something really ugly to match him. Some said that his mother had a brain tumour and she named him in such an odd manner because her brain was 'mush' when he was born. And whenever people in the halls mockingly called him 'tumour baby' or 'brain tumour' - then he had to painfully be reminded of his mother's absence from his life.

"So you're like Mister Mxyzptlk?" You posed, a smile coming across your face from the joy of making such an apt reference.

Stiles looked at you then, unsure if he had heard you correctly - but his heart started to beat faster and he was sure that his crush developed into full, heart-stopping love in that moment.

A gorgeous, cute, sweet girl like you making such an obscure dorky reference - there was nobody else. Nobody else would ever make him feel the way you had in that moment.

Scott was entirely confused, looking between the two of you with utter dumbness across his face, wondering why Stiles' heart rate had increased so much.

"Ugh - yeah." Stiles stuttered out awkwardly. "Yeah, I guess I am."

"So, is learning your real name the power to defeating you?" You posed, smoothing your voice into a sultry tone, stepping closer to Stiles, running a hand up his bare forearm - clearly flirting now. "Do I get three chances to moan it in your ear without making a mistake before you're allowed to do whatever you want to me?"

Scott regretted his super-hearing, being able to catch exactly what you said in a low whisper against Stiles's ear.

Stiles's brain was short-circuiting.

You were making nerdy references and coming onto him now. His blood was rioting between rushing to his pants and giving him a heart attack, and soon, before he could stop it, he practically shouted:

"Marry me!"

And while this would have been a colossally awkward fumble with any other girl, you simply giggled and smiled.

"You're so cute." You complimented in return, reaching out to gently 'boop' a finger against his nose.

Stiles continued to gape at you, feeling like he needed to say more, needed to communicate just how epicly wonderful you were in his eyes.

"Chocolate? Or vanilla? Our wedding cake could have 4 tiers, or we could get one of those cupcake tower things, I heard those are really trendy."

You let out another laugh, thinking that he was joking - not realising that he was already picking out an engagement ring in his head, and wondering which comic book characters you would name your children after.

"We can start with a date." You told him. "Friday. After the game."

He nodded.

"Yes, date." He agreed eagerly. "A date would be amazing."

"I have to get going now." You added on - and he felt like he was floating when you leaned in and kissed him on the cheek before you departed. "See you later?"

"Everyday for the rest of our lives." Stiles mumbled quietly, entirely love-struck.

"What the hell was that?" Scott asked, still entirely baffled.

"We shall have a spring wedding." Stiles replied, his eyes still locked on your back as you walked away - clearly, he was still caught up in the euphoria of the interaction.

Scott had to drag him away.

Despite your reluctant affections for Atsumu, much about your dynamic remains unchanged. He still makes you mad enough to yell at him at least once a day, all while wearing that cheeky grin that you hated that you loved.

Something that has changed, though, is Atsumu taking you out and showing you off, teasingly introducing you to all his teammates and friends as "his girl." You, bonafide relationship-newbie, do not have the courage to ask him directly as he continues to toe the line between dating and… not.

The most degrading part of it all is the fact that you know why you don't just talk to him. It's true that you just don’t know the proper procedure for the natural progression of a romantic relationship, but that's an excuse. You're scared of what you'll find when you ask wonderboy Atsumu, well-liked by most everyone and incredibly physically blessed, what he's doing with a rain-cloud grump like you. If prolonging that conversation would mean that you get to enjoy this limbo of having his attention and affections in private, there are worse games to play. Probably. 

It's not unusual to find yourself in Atsumu's apartment these days. You’re a mainstay when he throws parties after games. Ironically, it's been a whole semester since your first encounter and it's once again finals week when Atsumu had begged you to at least show your face at his party. It was the least you could do for him since he allowed you to skip his game in favor of studying for your last final, consequently making you miss his game-winning service ace. In your usual grumbly fashion, you had agreed and let him press a sweet, indulgent kiss to your cheek. He had gotten a smile out of you in reward when he cheered rambunctiously at you agreeing to merely grace the party with your presence.

The time is far past 10 PM when you finally look up from your notes and you curse, getting up to bolt for Atsumu's room to keep your promise. You run past your mirror on your way out to be greeted with your eye bags and creasing on your cheeks from when you took a brief nap on your textbook. You scrutinize your face and figure you'll try to look a little nice for Atsumu tonight. After all, he had a big win today and you're already a bit late, so what's the harm in a few extra. In a manner truly unlike yourself, you take some time to doll up before heading out. You're practically skipping on your way to his door, looking forward to the look of shock Atsumu will give you then the subsequent teasing. You can already hear his lazy drawl, smugly grinning as he says "all dressed up for me, sweetheart?"

When you knock on the door, his teammates answer, all greeting you pleasantly and politely making comments about your appearance. They all sweep you into the kitchen, offering you drinks and snacks and asking how your day was. Had you been a little less excited and a little more yourself, you would have noticed the tense looks on their faces.

It becomes a bit strange when even Sakusa continues to badger you with questions about your semester, finals week, and vacation plans. You level them with a look containing the usual sharp glint in your eyes and ask where Atsumu is. Shifty eyes don't meet yours as they all scramble to respond simultaneously.

"Out."

"He's actually asleep-"

"Went to find dinner-"

You frown and push past the wall of hulking athletes towards Atsumu's shut bedroom door. Your fingers are curled around the doorknob when Sakusa places a hand on your shoulder. He doesn't say anything and you don't turn to face him, only turning the knob. His hand on your shoulder falls away.

You're not sure what to expect when you enter Atsumu's room but this is certainly not it. Cliché as it is, you have never imagined yourself in a situation where you would see someone who filled you with so much hope and took so many of your firsts and inflicted you with so much of an unfamiliar emotion kissing someone else. 

You see Atsumu lying on his back, on his bed, with a woman you've never seen before straddling his hips and hovering incriminatingly close to his face.

At your intrusion, Atsumu's eyes fly open. You can see the thoughts and excuses flash across his eyes in one second, but you've seen all you need to so you back away without a single word, fleeing the scene.

That's when you realize that you and blondie have maybe been playing different games this whole time. Or at least playing the same game, but there you were, perfectly content with your measly houses on Pennsylvania Ave on the Monopoly board while Atsumu's building hotels down the street on Park Avenue.

Who would win in a fight, Iron Man or Captain America?

If you want to stack stats, you have to go to Marvel’s Power Grid.

Intelligence:

Captain America is rated 3, or learned.

Iron Man is rated at 6, or super-genius. Level 7 is omniscient. Tony’s intelligence is such that he can predict the future based on current trends.

Nod goes to Mr. Stark. Cap isn’t smart enough.

Strength:

Steve Rogers is rated as a 4, the peak of human ability. He can regularly lift 800 pounds. He’s likely the strongest non-powered human who ever lived.

The Iron Man armor is rated 6, regularly lifting 100 TONS. Stark once knocked out the Hulk in one punch. Additionally, he can override the safety protocols to push his suits even harder. He once easily lifted a nuclear sub weighing 16,000 tons by overriding his suit’s safeties.

Category goes to Tony. Cap isn’t strong enough.

Speed

Cap gets a rating 2 here, normal… although normal is relative. Steve can sustain a jog at 30 mph, and can sprint at nearly twice that. For reference, a 3 rating caps out at 700 mph.

Stark in the open is FAST and gets a 5 rating. Supersonic. Even in close quarters, the suit is fast enough to outmaneuver Spider-Man.

In a race at least, Stark wins. Cap isn’t fast enough.

Durability

Captain Rogers has a rating of 3. Enhanced. He has incredible stamina (he once sprinted five miles without being out of breath) and incredibly fast human healing.

Iron Man is rated 6 - superhuman. He has tanked nuclear warheads without even being concerned about the blast.

Iron Man wins by a longshot. Cap isn’t tough enough.

Energy/Projection

Cap is rated 1 for having no energy projection. To be fair, however, his shield does give him some distance attacks.

Iron Man is rated 6. He’s able to discharge multiple forms of energy, including making a sword and shield of pure energy, or even surrounding his already formidable suit with an energy shield.

Iron Man wins here, too. Cap doesn’t have energy enough.

Fighting Skills

Steve Rogers is rated 6 here - master of several forms of combat. His reflexes border on superhuman. He is a master tactician, able improvise at a high level.

Tony Stark is rated 4 - experienced fighter. He, too, is a master tactician, although perhaps more on a larger scale rather than hand-to-hand combat. He does have awesome technology to assist him here, however.

Rogers wins this category in the end. Stark isn’t the fighter Cap is.

Conclusion

Stark is faster, smarter, and more powerful in every conceivable way. Steve would have to incapacitate the armor, but he’s not smart enough to come up with a way of doing this that hasn’t already been anticipated and defended against. No offense to Steve, but punching Iron Man with his shield would be like me trying to suckerpunch a steamroller with a trash can lid.

Tony Stark wins, with one specific exception:

Unless it’s a Captain America comic book.

This all just makes me think of the final fight in Civil War. Tony had to be pulling his punches to some extent, because I feel like he could have taken Cap and Bucky out if not. But only if he was willing to kill them, which he wasn't. Have I mentioned how much I hate that Civil War ever happened though?

OVERVIEW: "In 2003, Universal released Ang Lee's adaptation of "The Incredible Hulk," one of the most popular and enduring Marvel superheroes (titled "Hulk"). Five years later, Universal has released yet another version of "The Incredible Hulk" (which opened June 13th). This new Hulk movie is actually a "let's start from scratch again and do it right this time" concept. That's because Lee's cerebral approach did not wow the fan base.

PART II: Five years later, Marvel Studios is trying to re-launch the franchise on its own -- Universal is only distributing the movie. French action specialist Louis Leterrier ("The Transporter") directed a brand new cast, featuring Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, and opted for a completely different approach to visual effects.

In 2003, Industrial Light & Magic created some 600 effects shots. In 2008, VFX Supervisor Kurt Williams and VFX Producer Paul Molles oversaw about 800 shots produced by seven different facilities. Rhythm & Hues (including R&H India) produced 224 character animation shots, plus 10 composites, while Hydraulx realized 248 shots featuring complex composites, CG environments, CG helicopter and a full CG Abomination transformation.

Other key vendors included Soho VFX (114 shots -- composites and CG environments) and Image Engine (75 shots -- blood drop shot, plus a CG environment for Rhythm & Hues). Lola VFX, G Creative and X1 also worked on the project."
